This man can be considered as the most prominent englightener in the XVIII century Livonia. He took interest in the language and literature of Estonia, in the earlier history of Livonia and its relics, worked to improve the situation of the peasantry and advance cultural life. His most famous work was probably "Topograpische Nachrischten...", which includes a lot of interesting facts about the earlier history of Livonia. In addition, he has influenced the history of Estonian language and journalism, as he published a magazine called "Lühhike öppetus" ("A Short Introduction/Guide") together with Peter Ernst Wilde.
