Meeting in Hirvepark Park

to map

23. August 1987

On August 15, 1987, Tiit Madisson and some other political prisoners had organized an Estonian Group to disclose the secret protocols the the MRP (MRP-AEG).

Already 8 days later, on the 48 anniversary of the pact, the Group arranged a meeting in Hirvepark Park in Tallinn.

There, the nature of the pact was described, most of the people present heard about the existence of the pact for the very first time.

Official journalism described the meeting as a gathering of imperialist agents who had shamelessly slanted the Soviet rule, speaking to few random "curious" people.

In reality, this meeting was an important step forward on the road of Estonia's independence.
