In June 1849 the successor to the throne Aleksander Nikolajevitš with his family (wife and sons Nikolai, Aleksander, Vladimir and Aleksei) arrived to resort city Haapsalu with the growing popularity where he met Aleksandr Suvorov, the Baltic general governor.

He and his family stayed in the house of De la Gardie next to the ruins of Haapsalu bishop castle and differently from the successor to the throne who left the city after meeting the governor, enjoyed the attractions of the resort for many more days.
