Nikolai I visits Tallinn for the first time

In the course of the latter he visited Tallinn Dome School operating from the 13th century where he found that the skills of the Russian language of the pupils are poor and required its improvement.

Though he really liked the half-military organization of Tallinn Blackheads and he spent long time in the House of the Blackheads. The Blackheads chose Nikolai its honorary member and later the emperor sent them the silver cup covered with gold.

The emperor Nikolai I who is known for his military affection and rather for the anti-reform world view, visited Estonia relatively often. His visits were mostly related to the military or administrative issues. The first visit as an emperor was made by him in October 1827.
