During late Bronze Age the Estonian coastal area became even the cultural province of Southern Scandinavia. Both bronze and bronze objects were brought from behind the sea.

The barrow type spread mainly in Northern and Western Estonia was of Scandinavian type -sarcophagus barrow.

Sarcophagus barrows at Jõelähtme. Just during the Bronze Age a lot German loanwords were taken over to the Baltic languages.

Trade became more active between the Estonian fortified settlements and Scandinavian power centres. Metal and luxurious goods were brought from the West, seal blubber, furs, honey or other hunting-gathering products could be taken back from the Estonian area.
