Old way of writing

1693

Johann Hornung compiled his Latin version of Estonian grammar, based on the disputes at the Bible conference. He used the ideas of those who supported the phonetic way of writing, but also of the supporters of the German style, and constructed the rules of northern Estonian ortography. These replaced the Stahl orography and remained in use until the middle of the XIX century. Now these are referred to as the old way of writing.
