24. July 1343

Uprising erupted in Saaremaa during the St. Jacob's Day in 1343. There also, Germans were slaughtered and their forts captured, including Pöide fort. Latter gave in after 8 days of siege, but the Oeselians allowed the Germans to leave the fort unharmed. Soon, however, they broke their word, and all the Germans, including the local bailiff, were stoned to death. By the beginning of August 1343, all of Saaremaa was free of foreign rule.
