Church of St. Nicholas in Lääne-Nigula was probably built in the middle of the XIII century. At first, it was a building with two bays and one aisle, and had a clear defence purpose as the stairs lead to the western vault. The original exterior was lost after a fire in 1809, which destroyed the vaults and the sacristy. Later additions were built in Classicist style.
