to map

In 1346, the Teutonic Order bought the land (where the Livonian Order had already established their dominion) from Denmark, paying 20,000 thalers.

Thus, Northern Estonia was officially owned by the Teutonic Order, its highest ruler was the Grand Master. But already in 1347, latter handed the land over to the Master the Livonian Order, and the real power was executed by the branch of the Teutonic Order.

Nonetheless, the Grand Master remained its highest authority, and in the XV century, when the Livonian Order tried to increase its independence from the Grand Master, Northern Estonia created conflicts.
