The duchy of Livonia is added to Lithuania

to map

In 1566 Gotthard Gettler was relieved of his place as vice-regent of Livonia, and was replaced by a Polish noble. It was also decided to officially join Livonia with Lithuania, thus ending its obscure status, where it did not belong to neither Poland nor Lithuania.

That status was changed again, when Poland and Lithuania were joined together to form the Rzeczpospolita. Polish-Livonia became a part of the Rzeczpospolita, belonging equally to Poland and Lithuania.

These events hindered the freedoms of the local nobles, whoch had been rather loose during the first few years of Sigismund II Augustus's rule.
