Semgalia surrenders to the Livonian Order

1291

It can be said that the Livonian Crusade ended in 1291, when the last Semgalian fort surrendered to the crusaders. Similarly to Courland, majority of Semgalia went to the Livonian Order. This made some of the Semgalians, who did not agree with the dominance of the Christians, move to Lithuania, and they integrated into Lithuanians; those who stayed put, became Latvians.
