1233

In 1230, an ambassador from the the Pope, Alna Balduin, tried to create a state from all the disputed lands in Livonia, that would belong to the Pope's rule.

Brotherhood disliked this plan, and in 1233 an open armed conflict broke out between the Order and the ambassador. The order reconquered all the lands that had been subjected to the legate, and, according to Balduin, organized a bloodshed in Tallinn, where dozens of Pope's vassals were killed. It is possible, that majority of those were Estonians.

After this incident, the reputation of the Order decreased even more, and people started to openly discuss its abolishment. More and more people believed, that the Brotherhood should become a branch of the impeccable Teutonic Order.
