Lithuanian-Livonian alliance is made

17. May 1501

Lithuanians needed this deal more than Livonians, as they were already in the war with Moscow. Livonians were very doubtful towards getting engaged in the conflict, but the Master of the Order and Hanseatic towns supported the plan.

Thus the Diet decided to get involved; on May 17, 1501, Livonian and Lithuanian alliance was signed in Vilnius. The ceremony was repeated on June 21 in Võnnu (Cesis) fort. According to the deal, both sides promised to help each other in the war against Moscow and neither of the sides were allowed to make a separate peace with the Russians. This alliance was to last for 10 years.
